Returning your library books - Academic Year 20/21: Introduction

Book Returns Box

All returns must be quarantined for 72 hours once the item is returned, therefore all items should be returned to the 'Book Returns' box just outside the Library entrance, there is also a trolley located at the stewards desk for returns. Please note the items will not come off your account until after the items have been quarantined.

Claimed Returns - Process

If you have returned a book to the Library through the returns box but the books are still appearing on your Library account – please check again in three days. All books are quarantined for 72 hours before being processed and returned to the Library circulation to ensure maximum safety for our patrons.

If you have returned an item and it still appears on your account after three days, or if you never took it out in the first instance, please notify library staff who will make every attempt to determine the whereabouts of the item.

If the item is found on the shelf, the library will waive any overdue fines that have accrued in the system for the item. If the item is not found on the shelf you will be encouraged to look for the item again.

Please contact us at if you have an issue with a returned book.

Final Return Date

September 30th is the final auto-renewal date. After this date, any items on loan will begin to accrue fines once the loan period has expired. To avoid this from happening please return the items to the library or renew the items.

Note: Users have not been charged fines for books which they are unable to return while the library was closed due to COVID-19.

The Library charges fines for the late return of books:

50 cent (50c) per day for books from the main Library
Two euro (€2) per day for three day loan books
Two euro per (€2) day for DVDs, videos and audiotapes
Four euro (€4) per day or part thereof for one day loan books

Users will not be able to borrow if they have fines totalling five euro (€5) or more on their account.

Recalled Books

All items may be recalled before the original due date if a reservation is made by another user.

If you receive a recall notice, please return the item no later than the new due date shown. In this way you will avoid overdue charges and contribute to a more efficient reservation service.

It works both ways!
You can reserve any items currently on loan, and they will be recalled for you.
