Useful Websites and Resources for Education

Department of Education and Skills Contains Information on the education system in Ireland including policies and publications.

Education Research Centre (ERC) The Educational Research Centre was established on the campus of St Patrick’s College, Dublin in January, 1966. The setting up of the Centre was a means of widening the scope of, and making for greater continuity in, research efforts in Ireland. The Centre works at all levels of the education system, from pre-school to third level.

Educational Studies Association of Ireland Includes a resources section with Annual and Cumulative Registers of Theses in education research.

Eurydice The Eurydice Network provides information on and analyses of European education systems and policies, key data series, and reference material relating to education.

Higher Education Authority The Higher Education Authority (HEA) is the statutory planning and policy development body for higher education and research in Ireland. The HEA has wide advisory powers throughout the whole of the third-level education sector. In addition, it is the funding authority for the universities, Institutes of Technology and a number of designated higher education institutions. 

The Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) The PDST was established in September 2010 as a generic, integrated and cross-sectoral support service for schools.

Special Education Support Service The SESS co-ordinates, develops and delivers a range of professional development initiatives, resources and publications for school personnel working with students with special educational needs in mainstream primary and post-primary schools, special schools and special classes.

The Teaching Council  The Teaching Council is the professional standards body for the teaching profession, which promotes and regulates professional standards in teaching. It acts in the interests of the public good while upholding and enhancing standards in the teaching profession.
